A College of the Mainland employee group raised more than $1,000 to launch a 2014 scholarship for a student dedicated to community service.

The employee group, COMPeers, hosted a March Madness bracket competition, a bake sale and basketball shooting competition to raise funds. The new scholarship will be among 100 offered by the COM Foundation for students.

The fundraiser was the group’s second for the scholarship, following its fall Fantasy Football tournament.

Committed to helping COM students and the community, COMPeers members also coordinate an ongoing collection of pop tabs to donate to the Ronald McDonald House in Galveston.

COM Foundation currently offers more than 100 scholarships, open now at www.com.edu/scholarships.
