College of the Mainland is hosting community forums to gather community input about additions to the college’s academic course offerings.

Two forums are scheduled for 5:30-7:30 p.m. Feb. 15 and Feb. 27 in the Texas City/La Marque Chamber of Commerce office, 9702 Emmett F Lowry Expy, in Texas City.

The academic master plan will also be presented to the Dickinson Rotary Club at 12 p.m. on March 21, in the Dickinson ISD administration building, 2218 FM 517 E. in Dickinson.

“The college is growing,” said Dr. Warren Nichols, president. “Along with population growth, we are seeing business expansion all along the I-45 corridor in Galveston County, bringing new career opportunities for our residents.

“For those reasons and others, COM is making ambitious plans to roll-out new programs and courses over the next few years. These forums are the venue for us to hear from employers and community leaders about their employee needs in the coming decade. That input will have an important impact on our final academic plan.”

Up for review and discussion are potential new programs in Hospitality and Tourism, Engineering, Aerospace, Maritime, and others.

The forums are open to all and participation is encouraged.
