Student ceramic artists hope to raise the profile of their program at College of the Mainland when they show some of their work at Galveston’s ARToberFest 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 20-21.

Art Professor George Bowes said it’s been about 10 years since the ceramics program has been part of the island’s annual arts celebration. “This was a student initiative and people were very interested in doing it, so we’re back out there again,” he said.

The works of about eight advanced students will be on display, and the booth will also have information available about COM’s arts program and particularly ceramics. “It’s a way to promote the ceramics department in the community,” Bowes added.

Some of the displayed work will be for sale but much will be on display to showcase some of what COM ceramics program students are achieving.
