Veterans, their family members and the community are invited to attend College of the Mainland’s third annual veteran fair April 20 from noon to 3 p.m. in the COM Student Center.

Participating organizations include University of Texas Breast Imaging Center, United Way Bay Area, Texas Veterans Commission, Sears Optical, Bay Area Gastroenterology, Return to Wellness, RediClinic, Victory Chiropractic and Wounded Warriors Project.

“The goal is to provide a venue for health care agencies and community resources to provide information on health care, screening, prevention and available treatments. Every year, more and more agencies and medical facilities request to participate,” said Joel Camacho, veteran academic advisor.

COM’s Office for Veteran Success is hosting the event.

The Office for Veteran Success helps veterans submit VA documentation, provides campus resources, helps students apply for scholarships and connects students with community resources.

"Our focus in the Office for Veteran Success is to ensure our veteran students receive a quality education, are successfully using their VA education benefits and to promote veteran wellness, both physical and mental. We strive to provide the veteran student and their dependents with not only the resources available on campus but also throughout the community. Our efforts in connecting them with other veterans and agencies is a vital part in helping the veteran to transition from military to civilian life,” said Detra Levige, COM veterans officer.
