Sounds of the centuries soar in College of the Mainland’s Prelude to Europe Concert March 31 at 7:30 p.m. at St. John’s United Methodist Church.

In the free concert, the Duck and Cover A Cappella Group and Mainland Chorale will perform a Schubert Mass, an upbeat Latin melody and jazz-inspired pieces before they set off on a performance tour of Europe.

Rounding out the concert is a choral showcase of “West Side Story” and selections from Broadway’s “Rent.”

A reception, silent auction and drawing for the Paris/London Holiday for Two Raffle will follow the performance. Proceeds support the group’s upcoming tour, where they will perform American classics in the Czech Republic and Germany.

“Every time we’ve gone oversees we’ve done ‘Our America Musical Heritage performance,’ and Europeans love hearing Americans sing American songs,” said Dr. James Heffel, COM choir director.

The choir has previously performed in Italy and Ireland.

The COM choirs are open to community singers each semester who want to expand their skills in an encouraging, challenging environment.
