The Center for Risk Management will host a no-cost class OSHA’s Final Rule on Occupational Exposure to Crystalline Silica at the Gulf Coast Safety Institute May 29.

This seminar will discuss OSHA's final rule for respirable crystalline silica. After completing this class students will have a broader understanding of the health effects of silica exposure and how to monitor and control exposure to silica.

As the first director of OSHA’s Office of Technological Feasibility and acting deputy director of OSHA’s Directorate of Standards and Guidance, instructor Michael Seymour proved an accomplished project manager responsible for the agency’s highest priority standards projects. While working for OSHA he was the project manager for the respirable silica standard. Seymour led a large interdisciplinary team of OSHA experts in drafting the standard and supporting preamble as well as developed innovative guidance products. After retiring from OSHA, Seymour became President of Icarus Environmental, Inc. and completed work on the silica standard as a contractor for OSHA.

Seymour is certified in the Comprehensive Practice of Industrial Hygiene. He has over 30 years’ experience. Seymour has managed the implementation of numerous workplace safety programs including respiratory protection, lock-out/tag-out and confined space entry programs.
