College of the Mainland Fire Academy cadets train in the classroom, on the drill field and now, on the college’s own fire engine.

The engine was previously on loan from Forest Bend Fire Departmentand used regularly for training. When the department decided to sell the 1995 model, they offered it for COM to purchase.

“Having a fire truck here will take a lot of pressure off in training,” said Director of Fire Technology Danny McLerran. “We won’t have to travel as often.”

COM Fire Academy students complete 640 hours of training. COM will use the engine to train Fire Academy students and continuing education students who come for pump operator training.
