Finances should not keep any student from fulfilling their goals, so College of the Mainland Foundation awarded summer scholarships to students for the first time this year.

A total of 44 students received scholarships. Harry Hathaway, of Alvin, was among those receiving a $600 scholarship.

“The scholarship has helped me progress in many ways. The fact I was chosen over other possible candidates gave me even more drive and dedication to actuate my potential,” said Hathaway.

For Amber Armbrester, of Santa Fe, the scholarship will give her more time to study without having to work during her last semester of nursing school.

“The scholarship took a huge weight off,” said Armbrester. “I had the biggest smile on my face when I got that email (that I got the scholarship).”

Since 1972 College of the Mainland Foundation has been making a difference in the lives of students. The foundation currently distributes more than 100 scholarships each year.
