New career resource for COM students
“What will I do with my life?” is a common question of students, and College of the
Mainland offers a new resource to help them navigate career options.
COM students can visit an advisor to log in and begin exploring the Bridges Transitions
website, filled with information on choosing a career, job outlooks and resume building.
“I get them started. They can do it on their own,” said COM advisor Holly Bankston.
“If you have no idea what you want to do, you can answer questions about your interests.”
If students have an interest in a field to pursue such as health science, they can
view the list of options from anesthesiologist to speech pathologist and watch videos
about jobs, explore average salaries and view education requirements.
Students can also see job openings in a field and in a city through a search engine
Simply Hired.
For additional help, students can visit the COM Speaking, Reading and Writing Center,
open Monday through Friday, which offers free tutoring and help with interviewing
and creating a resume.
Students may make an appointment with an advisor or stop by Monday through Tuesday
8 a.m. to 7 p.m. or Wednesday to Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
