Online college courses offer a convenient way to complete an education, and College of the Mainland’s online program recently ranked among the most affordable in the state. An independent student resource, Onlinecolleges.net, announced COM as the fourth most affordable two-year online program in Texas.

COM offers certificates, associate degrees and transferable Texas Core Curriculum courses that students can complete entirely online. Programs include business, criminal justice and general studies. Students can also enroll in individual classes, including art, music, English, history, government, economics, math, Spanish and even physical fitness.

COM online classes blend discussion, lectures, interactive activities and videos to give students a variety of learning methods.

In addition to Web resources, online students have access to on-campus resources such as the library, gym, computer labs and tutoring.

“COM online classes are cost-effective and have a rigorous, continuous improvement process,” said Director of Distance Education Janet Wortman. “It is a systematic way to look at courses and constantly improve the quality of design. Since its implementation five years ago, it has equated to increased student success.”

Onlinecolleges.net provides overviews of schools that offer online programs, state by state, and guides on life as an online student.

The study used the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System, a resource maintained by the National Center for Education Statistics.
