COM offering driver's ed, defensive driving courses
Those seeking a convenient option for a ticket dismissal, teen or adult driver’s education
course need look no further. College of the Mainland is partnering with SAFETY-USA
to offer three online driving courses – Texas Online Defensive Driving, Texas Teen
Driver Education Course and Adult Driver Education Online.
Approved by the Texas Education Agency, the six-hour Texas Online Defensive Driving
Course is accepted for ticket dismissal by all Texas courts and municipalities, and
completers may be eligible for a 10 percent reduction in insurance premiums. The cost
is $29.95.
The Texas Teen Driver Education Course meets all DPS requirements and offers options
of a parent-taught or virtual instructor-taught version. The cost is $129.95. The
Adult Driver Education Online course, costing $65, assists drivers 18-24 years of
age in obtaining their first driver’s license. Completers may bypass the DPS written
exam and must only complete the driving portion of the DPS exam.
“We have received numerous requests over the years for driving courses,” said continuing
education director Carla Boone. “The Continuing Education Department is excited to
offer these new courses to our community in response to the need that has been expressed.”
Featuring online text and interactive videos and full audio or read-along text for
the hearing impaired, all three courses make it easy to learn at your own pace, any
time of day. Courses are available in both English and Spanish and 24/7 customer support
is available.
Registration is only available online at tx-dps.com/affiliates/college-of-the-mainland.
