Federal Financial Aid (Pell Grant)

Federal financial aid is awarded based on financial need and other criteria. All students applying for financial assistance through College of the Mainland must apply for a Federal Pell Grant first, through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Carl D. Perkins Grant

Students who need childcare assistance may consider applying for the Carl D. Perkins Child Care Grant.

Eligibility & Requirements

  • Be enrolled in a career and technical certificate or degree program with an active degree plan
  • Be enrolled in a minimum of six credit hours on campus (face-to-face classes). Developmental courses are ineligible. Enrollment only in online courses is also ineligible.
  • Maintain satisfactory academic progress with a minimum cumulative 2.0 GPA

CARES Emergency Aid

These funds are a part of the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund, a federal grant funded by the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act and are available to students currently enrolled at College of the Mainland. Federal funds are limited and not guaranteed.

Eligibility & Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in credit or eligible continuing education classes at COM
  • Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for credit classes

Students that have previously been awarded CARES Act Funds are eligible to receive funds each semester that they are enrolled if funds are available.

Texas Reskilling Grant (Credit)

Eligibility & Requirements

  • Be a Texas resident eligible for in-state tuition.
  • File a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
  • Have financial need as determined by the completed FAFSA and meet federal Title IV aid eligibility criteria
  • Affirm you were affected by COVID-19. Employment, housing, childcare, food security, disrupted education, and healthcare are some examples of COVID-19 impact.
  • Enroll or re-enroll in one of the following high-value career programs:
    • Medical Coding Certificate
    • Programming Certificate
    • Networking Certificate
    • AAT (Leading to EC-6) Certification
    • Health Information AAS
    • Nursing AAS
    • LVN-RN Transition (Nursing AAS)
    • Vocational Nursing Certificate
  • Have Satisfactory Academic Progress
  • You cannot have been enrolled in an accredited postsecondary institution in the previous six months. (You skipped one or more semesters or are new to college.)
  • You are within twelve months of completing your credential program.
