College of the Mainland (COM) is pleased to announce that it has been awarded more than $9,000 in funding from Texas New Mexico Power to update equipment and instructional materials used in CPR instruction. The donation highlights an ongoing partnership between Texas New Mexico Power and COM to support vital safety training resources for individuals in the community.

“We are honored to continue this important partnership with Texas New Mexico Power,” said Dr. Lisa Watson, executive director of the COM Foundation. “This funding allows us to continue providing valuable instructional resources that are paramount for cultivating an ongoing environment of safety for the COM community.”

Since 2014, Texas New Mexico Power has partnered with College of the Mainland to support scholarships and special projects. With this most recent funding, COM was able to secure additional CPR equipment, teaching materials and training software. In addition to new equipment and training materials, eight adult and eight infant mannequins were replaced, along with practice shields, manuals and software.

Each year, COM certifies more than 200 people in CPR through affordable training programs critical for preparing future EMTs and paramedics to keep communities safe. Serving not only students, but also area citizens and partner organizations such as Dickinson ISD, Marathon Petroleum, Texas A&M Galveston and the Safety Council of Texas City, CPR trainers can be certified at COM and go on to educate hundreds more in the community.
