Supplemental Instruction (SI)

SI sessions offer a relaxed, group-study environment where you can compare notes, discuss key concepts, and test your knowledge before the actual exam.

How SI Works

• Peer-Led: Sessions are facilitated by SI Leaders - students who have already excelled in the course and attend class with you to stay current on assignments.
• Targeted Support: We focus on historically difficult courses. Check your syllabus or ask your instructor to see if your section has an assigned SI Leader.
• Beyond the Content: You’ll learn study techniques specific to the subject, including note-taking, problem-solving, and test-prep strategies.

What to Know

• Free & Voluntary: Sessions are open to all students in designated courses regardless of their current grade.
• Group Focused: SI is a collaborative group experience to deepen your understanding, not a one-on-one tutoring session for homework answers.
• Attendance Matters: Regular attendance is proven to help students earn higher course grades.

How to Get Involved

• Request an SI Leader: If you teach a course with high enrollment or challenging content, contact the Tutoring Center to discuss adding an SI component to your section.
• Collaborate: Meet briefly with your SI Leader throughout the semester to share upcoming topics or areas where students might need extra focus.
