Student Government Association (SGA)

SGA is a nationwide organization. The College of the Mainland chapter operates under the Texas Junior College Student Government Association, a statewide organization of colleges in Texas.

Our association is led by an Executive Board comprised of dedicated students, with guidance and support from two advisors for day-to-day operations. The executive board includes the following roles:

• President
• Vice President
• Secretary
• Treasurer
• Parliamentarian
• Historian

The SGA has many different purposes, primarily serving as the liaison between the student body and college leadership to voice student concerns, while also overseeing all of College of the Mainland's clubs.

What an SGA Member Does: Each officer has specific duties detailed in the constitution. Generally, an effective SGA member:

• Represents student concerns at official meetings.
• Helps sponsor or co-sponsor campus events.
• Attends leadership conferences as necessary.
• Serves the campus community with kindness, professionalism, and helpfulness.

To become a member of the Student Government Association leadership team, you must meet the following institutional standards:

• Enrollment: Must be enrolled in at least six credit hours at COM.
• Academic Standing: Must maintain at least a 3.0 GPA (note: specific GPA requirements may vary by position).
• Conduct: Must be a person of good standing at the College, demonstrating respectable, professional, and positive behavior.

Student involvement is a key part of student government—student, after all, is right in our name! If you would like to inform the SGA about an upcoming event, request club funding, voice a complaint or concern, or bring any campus matter to our attention, we want to hear from you.

• General Meetings: The SGA holds General Meetings on the first Tuesday of every month from 12:30 p.m. to 1:20 p.m., where representatives from each campus club meet to discuss upcoming events.
• Meeting Location: Due to ongoing construction, please contact sga@com.edu to confirm the current meeting location.
