COM employees donate to food bank

College of the Mainland employees collected and donated $125 for the Galveston Food Bank School’s Out But Hunger’s Not Campaign.

COMPeers, an employee group, coordinated the donation, which will supplement 500 meals for children in need.

Galveston County Food Bank programs reach nearly 5,800 hungry children monthly with nutritious food, especially needed in the summer when children do not receive the benefits of free or reduced cost school lunches.

An active community service group, COMPeers also conducts school supply drives and other projects to support local needs.

The group is currently accepting donations of Box Tops for Education for local schools, on a rotation basis, and pop tops from aluminum cans to benefit Ronald McDonald House in Galveston. COMPeers has donated Box Tops to schools in Texas City, Dickinson, Santa Fe and Hitchcock ISDs.

For more information or to donate, contact Rosie Rojas, COMPeers secretary, at rrojas@com.edu.
