COM's Phi Theta Kappa chapter inducts new members

College of the Mainland’s Sigma Delta chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, the national community college honor society, recently inducted 17 members. PTK members must achieve the academic standards of PTK and hold a 3.5 GPA. The activities of PTK focus on the development of leadership, scholarship, fellowship and community service. COM’s PTK chapter is actively involved in academic and service projects on campus and in the community.

At the ceremony COM graduate and former Sigma Delta vice president Eddie Hicks served as guest speaker. As a member of the Coca-Cola Community College Academic Team, he received a scholarship and is completing his Bachelor of Science at University of Texas at Arlington, after which he plans to attend medical school.

The inductees are Michelly Villalpando, Julie Daniher, January Dahl, Jessica Burnicle, AguaMarina Juarez, Jennifer Cowan, Melanie Lauret, De’Ashley Porterie, Janet Robinson, Danielle Sawyer, Vanessa Tango, Sandra Wilkes, Reshmi Dutt, Joan Harden, Shuo Cheng, Jennifer Harris and Michelle Biggs.
