SGA Application for Candidacy

Applications are due by 5pm on September 25. 2020.

Elections to be held from September 28 through October 1.

Candidates are asked to meet with one or both of the SGA advisors. You may arrange this virtual meeting through email. The SGA advisors are Sean Skipworth, and Doug Alvarez, . It is the responsibility of the candidate to make contact and arrange this meeting. Candidates that do not meet with the SGA advisors will not be eligible for election and will not be placed on the ballot.

A minimum GPA of 3.0 is required to hold office. Will you have a 3.0 GPA by the start of Fall 2020 semester?

Petition for Nomination to the COM Student Government Association

College of the Mainland Student Government Association Executive Officers Eligibility, Duties and Responsibilities

Eligibility Requirements:

All Executive officers must maintain a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) and enrollment hours during term of office, as per the College of the Mainland Student Government Association Constitution.

President

  1. Preside over all Student Government Association (SGA) General and Executive Board meetings.
  2. Represent the SGA in all dealings with the administration, Faculty, or Board of Trustees.
  3. Report student issues to the College of the Mainland President.
  4. Coordinate all activities of the SGA.
  5. Call special meetings of the General Student Association or of the Executive Board as necessary.
  6. Fill vacancies in office by appointment as specified by the SGA constitution.
  7. Inform other SGA officers if otherwise unable to attend required meetings so that another officer may attend.

Vice President

  1. Make arrangements for workshops and forums on issues affecting Student Government, appointing individuals to facilitate each group.
  2. Organize and schedule speakers, programs, and entertainment.
  3. Attend any meetings that the President cannot attend, especially the PAC meeting.
  4. Oversee all Executive Committees as specified in SGA by–laws.
  5. Execute the duties of the President in the event of his/her absence.

Secretary (Corresponding and Reporting)

  1. Accurately record minutes of the SGA Executive and General meetings.
  2. Keep accurate record of attendance at all SGA Executive and General meetings.
  3. Disseminate SGA minutes to Student Government members and other interested persons.
  4. Communicate all announcements to the SGA.
  5. Develop and distribute meeting agendas.
  6. Maintain accurate contact list of all General and Executive Board members.
  7. Maintain records of the SGA.

Treasurer

  1. Pay all appropriate dues, fees, and debts arising throughout the year.
  2. Maintain financial records and prepare regular financial reports as directed by the SGA.
  3. Attend all meetings of the Executive Board.
  4. Deposit funds within two business days of receipt.
  5. Provide a monthly report to be delivered at the General meeting.

Parliamentarian

  1. Enforce Parliamentary procedures and Robert’s Rules of Order.
  2. Respond to all questions of Parliamentary procedures.
  3. Attend all General meetings of the SGA and Executive Board.
  4. Be familiar with Robert’s Rules of Order and proper procedures during meeting.

Historian

  1. Attend all General meetings of the SGA and Executive Board.
  2. Collect and store SGA memorabilia.
  3. Attend all events sponsored, co-sponsored or assisted by SGA.

General Requirements

  1. Respond to phone and email correspondence in a timely manner.
  2. Sign SGA legislation in a timely manner.
  3. Regularly communicate with other SGA officers and the SGA adviser(s).
  4. Attend events where SGA is called on to represent the college. Ex: Austin Community College Day, Regional SGA conferences, State SGA conferences, college festivals, etc.
  5. Attend the Summer SGA Officer Retreat.
