Teaching Philosophy: Education is much more that memorizing facts and terms; education is learning to think for oneself and knowing how to utilizing these skills in any situation. It is my belief that helping students invest in their education and making them a part of the learning process will ensure their success. Additionally, mutual respect is emphasized in my classes. Mutual respect is achieved through appreciating diversity. In my classes we discuss how diversity serves as an opportunity to learn. We, as individuals, learn from each other, especially from our differences. Therefore, I require my students to challenge stereotypes and ethnocentrism. Being willing to see another's perspective encourages empathy.
