Training professionals

The TDCJ Academy is a low cost course of training (200 hrs) designed to prepare cadets for a career with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. Cadets must successfully complete all training as required. In the majority of cases, students will receive a station assignment on the last day of class. The academy is fast paced and students must be present each day.

The TDCJ Academy will train cadets in all aspects of the Basic Corrections that will include laws and principals, procedures and skills training. Costs to students are limited to tuition, two books, uniforms and footwear. All rigs, firearms, and ammunition are furnished for training as part of tuition costs. The instructional staff is comprised of full-time officers from the Harris / Galveston / Brazoria area.
