Basic Peace Officer Academy

The Basic Peace Officer Academy is a low cost course of training (835 hrs) designed to prepare cadets for the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Standards and Education Licensing Exam. To receive an endorsement to take the licensing exam the cadet must successfully complete all training as required. The academy is fast paced and all applicants not in possession of transcripted college hours must take the AccuPlacer Test and score 12.0 to gain entry. Students successfully completing the training will be awarded 25 credit hours towards an AAS in Criminal Justice. The daytime academy is offered in January and July of each year. Night academies are held once a year.

The Basic Peace Officer Academy will train all cadets in all aspects of the Basic Peace Officer Course that will include laws and principals, procedures and skills training. Costs to students are limited to tuition, one book, three 3" binders, uniforms and footwear. All rigs, firearms, and ammunition are furnished for training as part of tuition costs. The instructional staff is comprised of full-time officers from the Houston/Galveston area, most of which graduated from the College of the Mainland Basic Peace Officer Academy.
