Career Opportunities
Career opportunities in the criminal justice field include the following career paths at the local, state and federal level. Some of these careers may require graduate school.

- Prosecuting Attorney / Defense Attorney
- State Law Enforcement Officer (DPS Trooper, Game Warden)
- Federal Law Enforcement (Special Agent, Criminal Investigator, Evidence Specialists)
- District Attorney's Investigator

Degree Programs
College of the Mainland offers two degree programs for those students interested in Criminal Justice, an Associate of Arts (AA) with an emphasis in Criminal Justice and an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Criminal Justice. Online classes are available.
Associate of Arts with an emphasis in Criminal Justice
The AA degree plan is a "college transfer" degree designed for those students intending to transfer to a four-year college or university. Upon completion of the General Education and Criminal Justice required classes and receiving an AA degree from COM, the hours will transfer in total to a Texas public university's criminal justice major program.
Associate of Applied Science in Criminal Justice
The AAS degree plan is designed for those students intending on entering the Basic Peace Officer Academy or for peace officers who have taken an approved law enforcement academy and have college hours at COM who want to pursue a college degree. Qualifications and restrictions apply for entrance to the Basic Peace Officer Academy.
