Welcome to College of the Mainland's Emergency Medical Services Program home page. We offer courses that help students become certified as an EMT-Basic, EMT-Intermediate and EMT-Paramedic. The Associate of Applied Science degree is also available for those students wanting to become a Licensed Paramedic. COM's EMS Program is Nationally Accredited by the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the EMS Professions (CoAEMSP).

EMT-Basic
Students will be eligible to take the National Registry EMT-Basic Certificate test after successfully completing the following courses:
- EMSP 1501 - Emergency Medical Technicians - Basic
- EMSP 1160 - EMT Clinicals
EMT-Basic students will be required to complete 64 clinical hours outside of class time.
EMT-Intermediate
Prerequisites: Successful completion of a DSHS approved EMT-Basic course. Students must provide a copy of their EMT-B certificate prior to beginning clinical hours.
Students will be eligible to take the National Registry EMT-Intermediate Certificate test after successfully completing the following courses:
- EMSP 1338 - Intro to Advanced Practice
- EMSP 1355 - Trauma Management
- EMSP 2168 - Practicum / Field Experience I (Clinicals)
EMT-Intermediate students will be required to complete 144 clinical hours outside of class time.
EMT-Paramedic
Prerequisites: Successful completion of a DSHS approved EMT-Intermediate couse. Students must provide a copy of their EMT-I certificate prior to beginning clinical hours.
COM's Paramedic courses cover three college semesters. Students will be eligible to take the National Registry EMT-Paramedic Certificate test after successfully completing the following courses:
- EMSP 2444 - Cardiology
- EMSP 2248 - Pharmacology
- EMSP 2360 - Paramedic Clinical I - (144 Clinical Hours)
- EMSP 2434 - Medical Emergencies
- EMSP 2330 - Special Populations
- EMSP 2143 - Assessment-Based Management
- EMSP 2268 - Practicum / Field Experience II - (224 EMS hours, of which 120 hours will be completed after all classroom sections have been completed)
Associates of Applied Science - EMS degree

In addition to our regularly scheduled CE courses, we can provide contract CE courses that are customized to meet the needs of your organization.
New Online Courses
College of the Mainland recently begin offering EMSP 2345 - EMS Management as distance education. For more information on this course, please refer to the catalog.
We also developed the "Methods of Teaching" course that is required to be certified as an EMS and/or Fire Instructor. For more information on this course, please refer to the CE schedule.
