COM Nursing Programs
College of the Mainland's Associate Degree Nursing Program is one of the best in the area with first-class faculty and clinicals in hospitals and other health care facilities in Galveston and on the Mainland including the Houston area. COM also offers a transitional program for LVN practitioners who want to become RNs. Contact us about when the next LVN to RN Transitional class begins.
Faculty to Student Ratio
With a small student/faculty ratio, students at COM receive a lot of individual attention. All nursing students are assigned a faculty mentor. And all faculty have daily office hours during which time they are available to students.
State of the Art Lab Equipment
In addition to the standard equipment found in most nursing labs, COM provides students the additional opportunity to work with SIM Man, a computerized mannequin / patient.
Through programmed scenarios, SIM Man simulates a variety of patient conditions that allow nursing students the opportunity to practice assessment skills and then observe "real life" changes in SIM Man's condition as they provide appropriate interventions.
The lab is also equipped with an IV simulator and a hemodynaamic monitor that allows students hands-on critical care experiences prior to "real life" clinical experiences.
A RN lab coordinator is available to assist students in mastering these skills.
Nursing Counselor / Retention Specialist
The Nursing Counselor is available to assist nursing and pre-nursing students with academic, career and personal problems. She provides test taking and study skills workshops that are nursing-specific, and she offers both individual and group counseling on topics such as stress, time management, and test anxiety.
