Music Program at COM
The Music Program at COM offers an Associate of Arts Degree (Field of Study Music). The program is designed for individuals interested in pursuing a career in music or individuals that wish to improve their musical skills.
The music major must complete a balanced program including:
- Music theory I - IV
- Sight-singing and ear training I - IV
- Music literature
- Private instruction
- Performance in ensembles
- State required core curriculum.
- The two-year course of study is transferable to a four-year music program.
Many of the ensembles are community oriented and one does not need to be a music major to participate.
The vocal and instrumental ensembles are also offered through continuing education classes. The ensembles include:
- Concert Band
- Jazz Ensemble
- Jazz Combo
- Mainland Singers
- Mainland Chorale
- Guitar Ensemble
- Woodwind Ensemble
The professors of music at COM are active as performers, composers and clinicians. All are active in professional music organizations in the state of Texas as well as national organizations.
Many of the graduates of the program continue their education at various music colleges through out the nation. Many former students are instructors, professionals performing in various bands, orchestras, opera companies and on Broadway.
