Information for Students

CHS is an Advanced Academic program aimed at helping students earn their associate degree simultaneously with their high school diploma. A highly student-centered campus, CHS strives to meet the individual learning needs of each student by directly connecting their career goals to their educational experience. CHS is also designed to increase the number of students prepared for careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math by requiring all students to be continuously enrolled in math and science until they graduate. Activities are specially designed to help low income and 1st generation college students learn to be successful college students who graduate prepared for university transfer or the workforce.

Prospective Students

Collegiate High School is an exciting place to be for responsible, mature teens who are ready for the academic challenge of college-level courses without the time-consuming daily routines of the traditional high school.

Each semester, CHS hosts a Parent Information Session to help parents and students better understand the Collegiate High School educational environment and the application process. View the Presentation from the last CHS Parent Information Session:

Applying for CHS is a three-step process:

  • First, students must complete the CHS Application for Admission:

CHS Application for Admission 2010-2011 (PDF, 219 KB)
This includes an application, several references, school attendance and discipline information, plus a 200-300 word essay explaining qualities, experience and goals that make the applicant a good candidate for CHS. Essays are reviewed on their content and style. Finally, students must take the Accuplacer in the Testing Center
  • Next, students must complete the online application for two-year colleges for acceptance to College of the Mainland at www.com.edu/apply. This is a completely separate application than the CHS application.
  • Lastly, the student must interview with the CHS staff. This interview is similar to interviewing for a job and students will be asked questions concerning their knowledge and experience that qualifies them for the program. It also gives the students an opportunity to ask questions specific to their needs from the program.

Public School Students

Students from participating school districts, Dickinson ISD, Hitchcock ISD, Friendswood ISD, La Marque ISD, Santa Fe ISD, and Texas City ISD should visit with their counselors to learn their home campus requirements and procedures for the program. The student should know in advance how their CHS grades will be transferred to their home campus and how they will affect their GPA and ranking.

Private and Home School Students

Private and Home School Students are also invited to attend but are required to pay a private high school tuition in addition to the costs associated with the college courses.

CHS Students are also serve on their Student Council, march in their Band, Play High School and Select Team Softball and Volleyball, are Cheerleaders at their high school, are members in the National Honor Society, and much more! Students must know the time commitments of these activities, but CHS classes are almost always able to work around these important parts of high school.

CHS Student Activities

Nu Psi is a service club created by CHS students in order to give back to their community as well as develop strong leadership skills. Students volunteer with a variety of events both on the college campus and out in their own communities. Fundraisers provide educational and recreational field trips at the end of each semester to reward the students who work as hard for others as they do for their academics!

College of the Mainland Activities

All of COM's student organizations and facilities are open to CHS students, just as they are to all other COM students. Every Tuesday and Thursday, COM's Student Activities Board hosts workshops and fun events that keep the fun in school. CHS always has students elected to COM's Student Activities Board and to the Student Government Association representing our student needs.
