General Information
Innovations Lab, located in Room T-1324 of the Technical Vocational Building, has been established to provide all College of the Mainland students the opportunity to augment their learning through the use of microcomputers. The lab is staffed with personnel ready and willing to assist users. Register with the attendant at the front desk in order to be assigned to the appropriate computer. A validated current COM I.D. is required for admittance.
Computer Assisted Learning (CAI)
Research results show that student performance is increased and student learning time is reduced when computers are used in teaching and learning. Computer programs designed to teach are usually divided into three categories: drill and practice, tutorial, and programs that simulate an event or process. The user gets continuous and immediate feedback from the computer. Learning occurs at a rate that is individualized and controlled by the student.
Internet Access
Internet access is available to students. Computers are available for students' various Internet uses: personal, class assignments, Blackboard, VCT, etc.
Hardware
The lab has 85 PC's, with Windows 98 and Windows XP, and one Macintosh computer. Two PC scanners are available. Two Laser printers are available, providing a quality appearance to your documents. In order to conserve resources, printing is limited. A limited number computers are equipped with CD-RW drives.
Computer Programs / Software
A wide variety of computer programs are available including word processing, spreadsheets, graphics and numerous others that support course work. Microsoft Internet Explorer is used to access the Internet.
