    Rumor:

Can something Please be done to improve the College Web Page? Please take a poll and see how many people like or dislike its user friendliness.

    Response:

In 2009 an audit was done of our website and it was recommended that we redesign our site. We are still building and tweaking the new website and welcome any suggestions and input  that our students may have. If you would like to comment on the new website, please send an e-mail to marketing@com.edu.

    Rumor:

This doesnt need a reply...but it really needs to be addressed. It seems that a certain VP has demoted and discipled several individuals for seemly invaild reasons and has been reported to be overly rude to other employees. It makes it very difficult to know if your going to be the next person to get your head bit off. Maybe this person is over worked or just stessed out. Please look into this. role: other

    Response:

    Yes I will.

    Rumor:

Why are the English and Humanities Mini Session classes limited to only 15 students when the regular Spring Session had maximums from 20 to 22? Are the instructors getting paid less? Does the College not need the tuition money? How do I explain this to my daughter who can't get into the English class she wants? role: community

    Response:

Class sizes are smaller in writing-intensive classes in the mini-session to preserve the high quality of instruction.  These classes have the same number of contact hours and writing assignments as classes taught in a 16-week semester, but they are modified to fit a 3-week time period.  In order for the instructors to have time to give thoughtful feedback to writing assignments, which is very time intensive, we lower the number of students per class.   We do recognize that the 3-week mini-session is an increasingly popular alternative for students, and are looking for ways to expand the number of sections offered in the future.

    Rumor:

The new restrooms in the technical vocational building are completely ridiculous. We waited for those bathrooms hoping for a great outcome, instead, it is almost completely impossible to wash your hands or walk into a stall. The constant guessing of hoping no one enters because you do not want to rub against them is silly. Please fix the sinks and stalls and make them more functional. All I can think is really, really, really...who is the architect responsible for this disaster? role: student

    Response:

I think it would be very appropriate to have a walk-thru with you to discuss your concerns, but also allow us to explain the Accessibility Code requirements we must adhere to in the design of restrooms for individuals with disabilities. The code specifies strict space dimensioning guidelines. Please consider that at the time our restrooms were constructed, this code did not exist, and our restrooms did not conform to the Accessibility Code.

This project was very successful, and has provided a functional service for our students with disabilities, conforming to the Accessibility Code.  And in addition, we incorporated “hands free” components for toilets, sinks, and towel dispensers to improve hygiene and cleanliness in our restrooms.

Please call me at extension 8404, and I will gladly conduct a tour of our restrooms.

    Rumor:

The LRC was going to be basically gutted and rebuilt completely inside. Of course, I also heard a rumor that the building was going to be expanded. role: other

    Response:

The $4.3 million Learning Resource Center renovation includes upgrades to the building, infrastructure, Heating Ventilation Air Condition (HVAC) systems, interiors, way finding and technology. The project will also create space for state-of-the-art, flexible classrooms, individual and group study spaces, and additional areas for students to gain greater access to computers.

    Rumor:

Actually this is NOT a rumor as much as just wondering...since the college is tasked with providing services to League City residents, why doesn't the college receive any tax funding from those who are a part of the CCISD? It seems in light of the college's shortfall this is a source that is not being utilized, It is my understanding there are approx. 87,000 people now living in that community not paying their share of taxes. Can't the college start the process in Austin to make this change? role: community

    Response:

I have already started to speak with various individuals about this issue. The legislators avoid this matter because they see it as increasing taxes for some of their constituents. They also have said that this is a constitutional matter that requires 2/3 vote. I intend to work on this matter more intensely once the bond issue is approved. Please understand that those who live in the COM service area but not in the COM taxing district pay at least twice as much tuition as those who live in the taxing district.

Getting League City to come into our taxing district will be a lengthy and difficult process that will be well worth it once completed but it will be as difficult as getting a bond issue passed in five cities.

    Rumor:

This isnt a rumor, it's 100 percent the truth. This website is very difficult to navigate. I was looking for the class schedules and ended up calling the college to see if they could help me find them. It took a few moments for the employee to find it. The college has tried to improve the registration process but has taken a big step back with this website. I know I am not the only complaint. role: student

    Response:

This is the first negative feedback I have received about the new webpage; however, we plan to continue to improve on it. Please call our marketing department at 409-933-8437 and give them your suggestions directly. Thanks for taking the time to give us your valuable input.
