Posted on: October 15, 2013
In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, College of the Mainland and Mainland Medical Center will offer a panel discussion on preventative exams, navigating pre- and post-treatment options and supporting loved ones with breast cancer. The free panel and dinner will begin at 5 p.m. Oct. 23 in the COM Learning Resource Center Auditorium.
Mainland Medical Center radiologist Robert Matteson, plastic surgeon Linda Phillips and general surgeon Beverly Lewis will discuss well-woman exams and current options of breast cancer treatment and reconstructive surgery. Also, Joyce Singleton, of Texas City, will share her story of battling breast cancer and of later serving as her daughter’s caregiver after her daughter’s breast cancer diagnosis.
“A lot of families have been affected by this disease. My wife and daughter were diagnosed with it,” said event organizer and COM Associate Vice President for Outreach and Special Projects Al Bass. “We hope to offer advice and support to those facing this.”
A light dinner will be served at 5 p.m., followed by the panel discussion at 5:30 p.m. Participants may bring their queries for a question-and-answer time concluding the evening.
