Concert Band open for auditions

Posted on: February 06, 2013

Restore music to your life with COM’s Concert Band. Whether an engineer, former professional musician or student, instrumentalists can join others who share an enjoyment of music.

“We play a wide variety of music, including Broadway show tunes such as ‘The Sound of Music,’ movie themes like ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ and famous pieces such as Dovorark’s  ‘New World Symphony,’” said director Sparky Koerner. “I select music that the musicians will enjoy performing and that the audience can enjoy listening to.”

Participants relax and hone their skills in a cooperative environment. While a basic knowledge of reading sheet music is helpful, professional experience is not required.

“The Concert Band is a mixture of community musicians from many walks of life as well as students from the college. The one thing they have in common is the love of music and working with other musicians to bring to life the notes on the page,” said Koerner.

The Concert Band meets on Mondays at 7:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Building Recital Hall. All instrumentalists are welcome. The Concert Band is a continuing education class with a fee of $82 for in-district and $87 for out-of district participants. Contact Sparky Koerner at 409-933-8347 or email skoerner@com.edu.
