“A Grand Night for Singing” revives musicals’ best

Posted on: January 22, 2013

Hearken back to the 1950s with a lively evening featuring classic Rodgers and Hammerstein showstoppers. In College of the Mainland Community Theatre’s presentation of “A Grand Night for Singing,” five friends relax around the grand piano and reprise their favorite songs.

From a jazzy "Kansas City" to a breezy “Oh What a Beautiful Morning,” the songs create fresh renditions of unforgettable tunes. The performance highlights the talents of the cast and of the legendary team that created such classic musicals as “South Pacific,” “The King and I” and “The Sound of Music.”

“There’s plenty of variety, from good, fun comedy to rich love songs,” said director Rob de los Reyes. “You’ll recognize the songs you love and hear some great lesser-known pieces.”

The play will run from Jan. 24 through Feb. 17, with performances Thursday through Sunday.  For tickets, call 409-933-8345 or visit www.com.edu/theatre.
