A bacon coin bank, “rebooted” laptop and six-foot fire hydrant are among the artistic treasures displayed in the 2012 Annual Student Art Show at the COM Art Gallery through Dec. 6.

“We had a great level of talent displayed in the artwork,” said Art Gallery Director Mayuko Gray.

Former Clear Lake Arts Alliance director Debra Kendrick selected works for exhibition from more than 200 student pieces ranging from charcoal to pointillism, ceramics to photography.

“A lot of good work came out of the classrooms,” said Kendrick. “It’s always hard [to choose]. Students have a lot to be proud of.”

Many of the artworks are for sale, allowing art enthusiasts to take home an original piece at a reasonable price.

A reception presenting the best of show awards will be held Nov. 28 at 6 p.m. at the gallery. The recpetion is free and open to the public.

The Art Gallery is open Monday through Thursday 10 am. to 4 p.m. and by appointment. Call 409-933-8354 for more information.
