Posted on: November 07, 2012

The melodies of movies will come to life at the College of the Mainland Concert Band performance Monday, Nov. 12, at 8 p.m.

“I like to play movie theme music,” director Sparky Koerner said. “They are good melodies and are something the audience can relate to.”

The concert will feature favorite musical selections from “King Kong,” “Mission: Impossible” and “2001 Space Odyssey.” In addition, the band will perform classical selections, such as the “Carmen Suite” from Georges Bizet’s opera “Carmen” and Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 4.

In honor of Veterans Day, the band will also perform the Armed Forces Salute, which includes all of the military themes.

The COM Concert Band has been playing for more than 15 years and features a full 23-piece band comprised of COM students and area residents regularly bringing quality music to the community.
The concert will take place in the Fine Arts Building Recital Hall. Admission is free.
