The College of the Mainland board of trustees has named Dr. Beth Lewis, vice president of academic affairs at Northeast Lakeview College, the sole finalist in the COM presidential search. According to Texas law, the board must wait 21 days after the announcement before finalizing a contract, and the board will meet Nov. 16 to approve her appointment as president.
“Dr. Beth Lewis is very qualified for the position and has experience promoting, as COM does, student success, the community and campus communication,” said board of trustees chairman Ralph Holm.
A graduate of the University of Texas and Sam Houston State University, Lewis has long been involved in higher education in Texas. She currently oversees all credit and continuing education instructional programs at Northeast Lakeview College, which is part of the Alamo Colleges in greater San Antonio, Texas.
She previously served as the dean of academic affairs at Blinn College in Brenham, Texas, and as the district director of new program development and evaluation for the North Harris Montgomery Community College District in Houston. She has also been a full-time English faculty member at Lee College in Baytown, Texas.
She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Texas at Austin, a Master of Arts in English and a doctorate in educational leadership from Sam Houston State University.
