COM offers customized training for business and industry

Offering training year-round at an affordable price, COM Continuing Education can customize courses to fit any company’s needs. Courses target the specific skills that the company requests that its employees learn, whether crafts skills such as pump repair or human resources skills such as leadership development. Recently it taught a customized training course, Succeeding in Business Communications, for Marathon Petroleum Company employees. COM instructor Sheila Wall met with the company to talk about their challenges and the top five things they wanted their employees to walk away with before constructing a course to fit their time frame and specified needs.
Other companies request technical or crafts training. Ashland Inc. wanted its accountants to learn how to communicate data, so COM taught Technical Business Communication to teach clear and concise ways to share data. For an industrial plant COM taught a course on pump repair.
COM is very cost-competitive and can work with businesses to write grants to help them offset the cost of training. “That’s why companies like to partner with us. We’re a resource,” said Danny Bacot, associate director of contract training.
COM Continuing Education is flexible with location, offering training on campus or the company’s site. It also rents classrooms to companies who need space to hold their own trainings.
Besides customized training, COM offers regular courses to which companies can send their employees, spreading the cost of the training to several organizations. “We provide training partnerships. That’s why we’re here,” said Bacot.
