College of the Mainland Trustees Wayne H. Miles and Roney G. McCrary were sworn in at the Monday, May 23 board meeting. The oath was administered by Wolfgang Horn for Miles and Patricia McCrary for McCrary.
Miles represents Position 7. A League City resident, Miles is retired from the Harris County Community Supervision and Corrections Department and the Texas Department of Corrections. He has served on the College of the Mainland Foundation Board of Directors for many years and is a past president of that organization. As a former community college student himself, Wayne’s concern for the quality of education students at COM are receiving prompted him to run for the board. Miles and his wife Rebecca have three children and five grandchildren.
Roney G. McCrary represents Position 5. A Santa Fe resident, McCrary is retired from American National Insurance Company. He has more than nine years of experience on the Santa Fe ISD Board of Trustees, one as president and one as vice president. He is familiar with establishing tax rates and keenly aware of the districts responsibility to the community that it serves. McCrary and his wife Pat have two children and five granddaughters.
Both trustees have stated four goals that are the foundation for their time on the board: Restore trust and integrity to the Board; put students first; listen to the needs of industry; and improve the stewardship of the taxpayer’s financial stake in the College.
College of the Mainland is governed by a Board of Trustees consisting of seven voting members, elected from trustee areas in general elections throughout the district.
