Basic Peace Officer Academy

Through a combination of real-life scenario training and classes, students prepare for success on the state licensing exam and in the field. They learn how to investigate, write reports, properly use force and diffuse situations verbally.

In recent years academy graduates have achieved a 100 percent pass rate on the state exam.

How to Begin the Basic Peace Officer Academy

Day credit academies begin each January and July. Night noncredit academies begin each February.

  1. Apply to COM at www.com.edu/apply and submit the necessary documents (transcripts, meningitis vaccination if under 22 and proof of Texas residency). Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED.
  2. Complete the application packet (which can be picked up at the Public Service Careers Building). Email the packet and all necessary documentation to smeadows@com.edu or deliver it to the Public Service Careers Building. Students must pass a criminal background check and a state requirement, as well as a physical and psychological exam to be admitted.

Financial Assistance

An education at COM is offered at a fraction of the cost of a four year university. In addition, students may apply for financial aid and scholarships. For financial aid information, call 409-933-8274 or visit www.com.edu/financial-aid. For scholarship details, call 409-933-8508 or visit www.com.edu/scholarships.
