A.A.S. Criminal Justice Degree

Associate of Applied Science – Criminal Justice

To advance to the next level in law enforcement, graduates of the Basic Peace Officer Academy may apply their credit toward the Associate of Applied Science. The degree includes general studies and criminal justice courses, and the COM Basic Peace Officer Academy counts as a full semester of credit.

The Associate of Applied Science in criminal justice prepares students for a career as a police officer, sheriff's deputy, state law enforcement officer, district attorney investigator or correctional officer.

Also, students who do not yet meet the state’s age requirement for the academy may complete the degree to gain knowledge of the field.

Basic Peace Officer I–IV classes comprise the COM Basic Peace Officer Academy. To enroll in the academy, applicants must pass a criminal history background check and meet the state requirements for entry. For more information, call 409-933-8285.

How to Begin an Associate Degree

  1. Apply to COM at www.com.edu/apply.
  2. Submit necessary documentation including high school or college transcripts, proof of Texas residency and meningitis vaccination records if you are under 22.
  3. Satisfy placement testing requirements.
  4. If you are a first-time college student, attend a New Student Orientation before registering. Transfer students meet with an advisor before registering.
  5. Register for classes at www.com.edu/register.
