College Connection

College of the Mainland (COM) is committed to ensuring that all high school graduates demonstrate and understand the skills necessary to successfully enroll in postsecondary education. To that end, COM has partnered with Hitchcock, LaMarque, Santa Fe and Texas City ISDs and Clear Creek High School, Clear Springs High School and Ed White Memorial High School in the nationally recognized "College Connection" to provide a seamless transition to higher education.

This partnership offers every senior the opportunity to be admitted to a college. It is designed to help students and parents investigate college options and navigate through the application and financial aid processes. The goal is simple - to help complete the connection between the student, the parent, the high school and the college selected.

Participation in "College Connection" assists students with:

  • Application : Helps students complete the college admissions forms and other applications
  • Orientation / Advisement / Assessment : Provides orientation, individualized advising about coursework and testing at no cost to the student
  • Financial Aid / Career Counseling : assistance with applying for financial aid, scholarships and career planning regardless of college planning to attend
  • Registration : provide an opportunity for students who choose to attend College of the Mainland to register for classes

Parent participation is important especially in the financial aid sessions for successful completion and strongly encouraged.

College Connection Advantages

  • Assessment test scores can be used for other colleges
  • The Financial Aid application (FASFA) used for other colleges and universities
  • Upon completion of the program prior to high school graduation, students who have not applied to or been accepted by another college will be admitted to COM and able to register when ready
  • Students attending elsewhere will be able to register and take summer classes that will transfer
  • At either graduation or the awards ceremonies, each participating graduate will receive an official letter of acceptance

All that is needed to participate is parent permission!
