Our
College's work force constitutes our
most valuable resource. Today's competition
for the best qualified talent in higher
education requires that we recognize
the unique characteristics and special
talents of every employee and the value
that these talents and differing characteristics
bring to our organization. Colleges
that value and manage diversity increase
their success and retention rate not
only amongst college personnel, but,
amongst college students as well. I
am personally committed to enhancing
our efforts in this area. Therefore,
I have established a Diversity Council
composed of representatives from strategically
selected teams across campus to address
diversity in the workplace.
In July of 2004, a Strategic Diversity
Plan was submitted to the President's Leadership
Council for approval and then forward to
the Board of Trustees for information.
The vision of this Strategic Diversity
Plan is to assist and facilitate the College's
overall vision to prepare our students
to live and work in a diverse and global
environment by demonstrating respect for
diversity in creating relationships, policies,
and procedures that support individual
differences. The Council will serve as
consultants to me and the President's Cabinet
on diversity issues and will also be available
to you to address any questions or concerns
you may have regarding the College's diversity
initiatives.
Recognizing that individual contributions
are important to our strategic success
provides for improved innovation, productivity,
dedication, and leadership. We must all
strive to embrace diversity as an element
of success at our institution.
Please direct your questions, concerns,
or suggestions to the Diversity Council
via email addressed to the Director of
Diversity and Equity in Human Resources,
Lonica Bush, J.D.
