COM offers a variety of other programs, including the following:
- Air Force Reserve Officer Training (ROTC) – The ROTC program prepares men and women of character, commitment and courage to assume leadership positions as active duty commissioned officers in the United States Air Force.
- Senior Adult Program
- Spanish
- Cooperative Education
Air Force Reserve Officer Training Course (ROTC) – ROTC classes may be taken for elective credit toward any degree plan at COM and will also transfer to any four-year institution that participates in Air Force ROTC. The following Houston universities currently participate in our program:
- University of Houston-Clear Lake
- Rice University
- Texas Southern University
- The University of St. Thomas
- The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston
- Houston Baptist University
Community college students are required to complete a four-year academic plan detailing the courses they will take to complete a four-year degree and specifying when they will graduate. This will require them to meet with a counselor at one of our partner universities listed above. This requirement ensures that two-year students plan on transferring to complete their four-year degree.
Freshman- and sophomore-level classes are open to all students as elective credits. No military obligation is incurred as a result of enrollment in these courses. However, once you transfer to a four-year university and pursue junior- and senior-level courses, you commit yourself to a military obligation. ROTC scholarship students also incur a military obligation. All courses and physical training sessions take place at the University of Houston. Flight orientation occurs at airports in the Houston metro area.
For more information, visit the ROTC page for course descriptions and current ROTC schedule. Also, you can contact the Air Force Science Department at the University of Houston or call them at (713) 743-4932 or online at www.uh.edu/afrotc.
