Jackson, Mississippi native Eudora Welty is acknowledged as one of the great authors of the twentieth century. In recent years, her talent as a photographer has been recognized. This exhibition features photographs of Mississippi that capture the American rural south in the Great Depression. Welty worked as a part-time journalist, copywriter, and photographer for the Works Progress Administration (WPA), which was aimed at providing jobs for writers. Her artwork reveals a compassion and sensitivity towards her subjects that is also a hallmark of her writing.
