Advising sessions should be scheduled by appointment, except during open registration. During open registration, advisors meet with students on a walk-in basis. Students should contact the Advising Services Department to schedule appointments or determine walk-in schedules. All students must bring their student ID to their advising appointment or walk-in session.
Students requesting degree audits/plans/EDP for financial aid, nursing, or VA MUST schedule an appointment to meet with an advisor.
Advisee Responsibilities
- Know the requirements of your degree plan
- Be knowledgeable of campus policies, deadlines, and procedures
- Follow all campus policies, deadlines, and procedures
- Schedule an appointment with your advisor each semester for planning and updates
- Bring questions or materials for discussion at your appointment
- Ask questions if you do not understand an issue
- Follow through with all recommendations from your advisor
- Select, organize, and register for courses on your degree plan
- Accept responsibility for your decisions and be aware of your actions and how they affect you and others
Advisor Responsibilities
- Assist students in selecting an appropriate degree plan to follow
- Help students plan coursework to prevent excess courses from being taken
- Understand and effectively communicate curriculum and graduation requirements
- Assist students in gaining decision making skills and assuming responsibility for their educational plans and achievements
- Encourage and support students as they gain the skills to develop clear and attainable educational plans
- Provide students with information and resources on campus
- Maintain confidentiality
- Be accessible for meeting with advisees
